We can prepare the mind if we take advantage of the absorbent nature of the little child's mind. Once Montessori realized this, she created materials that acted like links in a chain of learning for children. Everything is designed to link with everything else, so that there are many, many possibilities for the child to make mental connections or discoveries. Likewise, because multiple senses are engaged, there is an increased likelihood of recall or remembering. The more pathways of locating the stored information that are formed, the more avenues by which the information can be retrieved. Also, different individuals have different strengths and weaknesses in receiving information through various senses. As we know now, some possess auditory or visual learning styles; others prefer a hand'-in approach.
